Rating:  2B
Seasonal:  April 1 through December 31
Start/Finish times:  The Air Force Academy is now open to the public at the north entrance (see directions) from 5:30 am to 10:00 pm.  Remote registration is available.  Download the form at www.falconwanderers.org.  Check my.ava.org for current status.  Alternate route is available, if the Academy is still closed (instructions for the alternate trail are located in the box at the Loaf'N Jug).
Starting point:  Loaf'N Jug, 161 North Gate Blvd. (Two volksmarches register here.  Ask for the Academy volksmarch box.)
Directions:  From I-25, take exit 156 (Air Force Academy/Gleneagle). Proceed east on North Gate Blvd less than 1 mile to Loaf'N Jug at the corner of North Gate Blvd & Meadowgrass Dr (on the right).  Visitors should enter the installation through the North Gate between the hours of 5:30 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.  Non-DoD cardholders must present one form of government-issued photo ID, such as a driver's license; plus vehicle registration and proof of insurance. Visitors may experience random precautionary measures and vehicle checks that may lead to extended wait times at the North Gate.
Special Instructions:  Security requirements change from time to time with little or no advanced notice and public access to the Academy may be denied.  If the Academy's Security Police deny you access to Academy grounds, please graciously accept their decision and complete the alternate 5/10Km trails.  The instructions for the alternate trails and how to get to the trailhead are available in the volksmarch box.  The trails wander through the Gleneagle housing area.  1. All personnel are required to wear masks when indoors.  2. The Chapel remains closed due to major construction.  3. Seat belts are required on the Air Force Academy.  4. Keep to the posted speed limits.  5. Drivers:  No Hand Held Cell Phones.  6. Watch out for joggers, bikers, deer, and other animals.  7. Make sure you have at least 1/4 tank of gas.  The Academy has no public service stations.  8. Smoking on the trail is prohibited.
Event info:  At the start/finish, you will pick up a map with driving directions on how to get to the walk trailhead.  The trail route is hilly and will include some dirt trails, roadsides, and sidewalks.  It has been rated 2B, because of the hills and altitude (7,280 ft).  Large wheeled strollers can complete this event.  Wheelchairs are not recommended.  Leashed pets only!  Pet owners are responsible for picking up after their animal.  Restrooms are available at the start/finish and along the trail at Arnold Hall and the Field House.  County:  El Paso.
